David Chester Gibbons, known professionally as Dave Gibbons, was born on April 14, 1949. He has established a prolific career as an English comics artist, writer, and sometimes letterer. Gibbons gained widespread recognition for his notable collaborations with writer Alan Moore, which include the groundbreaking miniseries Watchmen and the acclaimed Superman story "For the Man Who Has Everything".

Gibbons began his career in the world of comics in 1973 and made significant contributions to the comic 2000 AD from its inception in 1977. His talents have been sought after by major comic book publishers in both the United Kingdom and the United States. His work has been published globally and encompasses a wide array of iconic characters, including Batman, Superman, Dr. Who, Dan Dare, and more. In 1982, he commenced work on the Green Lantern series.

It was his partnership with Alan Moore on DC Comics' Watchmen series between 1986 and 1987 that catapulted Gibbons into formal recognition, earning them a Hugo Award in the Other Forms category.
