Christopher Moore, born in Toledo, Ohio, in 1957, is an acclaimed American writer known for his comedic fantasy novels. His father was a police officer, and his mother sold appliances at a department store. Raised in Mansfield, Ohio, Moore began writing at the age of 12. At 19, he moved to California, where he lived until 2003. He studied at the Ohio State University and the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California. Moore's career before becoming a full-time writer included roles as an insurance salesman, waiter, photographer, journalist, factory worker in a religious ceramics factory (Christmas motifs), and even a DJ.
Moore's novels are characterized by the presence of ordinary characters who find themselves in supernatural or extraordinary circumstances. Drawing inspiration from John Steinbeck's humanism and Kurt Vonnegut's sense of the absurd, Moore has become a beloved best-selling author with a significant cult following. According to a June 2007 interview with Writer's Digest, the movie rights for his first novel, La Comedia del Diablo (1992), were acquired by Disney before the book was even published. However, actual movie adaptations of Moore's works remain elusive; during a promotional tour for ยกChรบpate Esa! (2007), he mentioned that while all his books had been proposed for film adaptations or had their rights purchased, none are currently at risk of being made into a movie.
In June 2006, Moore moved to San Francisco, California, after living for several years on the island of Kauai, Hawaii.
