Chanel Miller is an American writer based in San Francisco, California, and New York City. She became widely known following a sexual assault incident on the campus of Stanford University in January 2015, where she was assaulted by Brock Allen Turner.
Initially known anonymously as "Emily Doe" in court documents and media reports, Miller's victim impact statement at Turner's sentencing hearing went viral after being published by BuzzFeed, garnering 11 million reads within four days. In September 2019, she revealed her identity and published her memoir, Know My Name: A Memoir. The book won the 2019 National Book Critics Circle Award for Autobiographies and was featured in several national book lists of that year.
Miller's case and her subsequent public speaking have sparked national discussions in the United States on the treatment of sexual assault cases and victims by college campuses and court systems.
