Brandon Stanton

Brandon Stanton is an American author, photographer, and blogger, renowned for his work as the creator of Humans of New York (HONY). Born on March 1, 1984, he has been celebrated as a transformative figure in portrait photography and storytelling.


Stanton's journey began after graduating with a degree in History from the University of Georgia. He initially worked as a bond trader in Chicago for three years but changed directions after losing his job, leading him to move to New York City in 2010. It was there that he started Humans of New York, a photoblog that captures portraits of people living and working in the city, alongside short narratives about their lives. His innovative approach quickly gained traction, earning him a spot on Time magazine's "30 Under 30 People Changing the World" list.


Beyond New York City, Stanton has expanded his storytelling to over 20 countries, including places like Iran, Iraq, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ukraine, Vietnam, and Mexico. His efforts have not only highlighted diverse human experiences but also helped raise over $20 million in support of various causes featured in his work.


He is the author of four #1 New York Times Bestselling Books: Tanqueray (2022), Humans (2020), Humans of New York: Stories (2015), and Humans of New York (2013). Stanton's works have sold millions of copies globally. He currently resides in New York City with his wife and three children.
