Austin Channing Brown is a media producer, author, and speaker providing inspired leadership on racial justice in America. She is the New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author of I'm Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness. Her work focuses on sharing and platforming Black women's experiences in contemporary America.
Austin is the executive producer of the web series The Next Question, which explores expansive racial justice. Her workshops are known for being incisive, fun, disarming, and transformative. By using an intentional mix of humor, pop-culture, storytelling, and audience engagement, she awakens people to the current realities of systemic racism and the everyday actions that make it possible.
Whether being interviewed, lecturing, preaching, or leading a workshop, Austin evokes thought, feeling, and action as she celebrates Blackness and the possibility of justice in organizations, teams, and communities. Her first book, released in May 2018, reached the top 20 of Amazon’s bestsellers list and has received acclaim from various notable sources.
In the summer of 2020, Reese Witherspoon chose it for her book club and it appeared on the show Bel-Air. Austin has also released a young readers edition of her book, entitled I'm Still Here: Loving Myself in a World Not Made for Me. Her contributions to anthologies include the New York Times bestselling book, You Are Your Best Thing, edited by Tarana Burke and Brené Brown, and Hungry Hearts: Essays on Courage, Desire, and Belonging.
Austin holds a Bachelor of Arts in business management from North Park University and a Master of Arts in social justice from Marygrove College in Detroit. Due to her impactful work, she has been awarded an honorary doctorate from Oakland University in Michigan and given a Key to the City in her hometown, Toledo, OH.
