Anton Nikolov Donchev was a renowned Bulgarian writer known for his historical novels and screenplays of Bulgarian historical drama films. Born on September 14, 1930, Donchev gained international fame with his novel Time of Parting, published in 1964. This novel was notably written in just 41 days.
Donchev graduated from the University of Sofia in 1953. Although he initially pursued a career in law, he soon shifted his focus to writing, publishing his first book in 1961. Over his career, Donchev wrote a dozen novels and about half a dozen screenplays, contributing significantly to Bulgarian literature. His last book was published in 2016.
In 2003, he was elected an academic at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, marking his influence and contribution to Bulgarian culture.
Anton Donchev was married to Evelina Troy, a chess player, and later to Raina Vassileva, a radio journalist. He passed away at the age of 92 on October 20, 2022, in Sofia, Bulgaria, due to a heart attack.
