Annie Barrows, born in San Diego, California, is an American editor and author renowned for the Ivy and Bean children's book series, and for co-writing The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society with her aunt Mary Ann Shaffer, which was adapted into a film.
Barrows grew up in Northern California, graduating from the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in Medieval History. Her initial career path led her to editing at Chronicle Books in San Francisco, handling unique projects. After completing an M.F.A. in Creative Writing at Mills College, Barrows, also known as Ann Fiery, authored books on varied subjects including fortune-telling, urban legends, and opera.
In 2003, she turned her focus to children's literature with Ivy and Bean, which became an ALA Notable Book followed by eleven sequels. The series has earned a place on The New York Times best seller list, among others, and has been translated into fourteen languages, with films in production as of 2021. Barrows has penned other works for children and adults, including her first solo novel, The Truth According to Us, which became a national best-seller.
