Annette Curtis Klause is an English-American writer and librarian, specializing in young adult fiction. She is currently a children's materials selector for Montgomery County Public Libraries in Montgomery County, Maryland. Born in Bristol, England, she now lives in Hyattsville, Maryland with her husband Mark and their cats.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature and a Master of Library Science degree from the University of Maryland, College Park.
Annette Curtis Klause's acclaimed works include four novels: The Silver Kiss (1990), Alien Secrets (1993), Blood and Chocolate (1997), and Freaks: Alive on the Inside (2006). Her first novel, The Silver Kiss, is described as a "sexy, scaring, and moving" vampire love story, a darkly seductive thriller with heart and message.
During her childhood, she was influenced by children's tales and horror movie stories narrated by her father. Among her favorite readings were The Chronicles of Narnia and historical novels by Rosemary Sutcliff. At the age of fourteen, she read her first vampire book, The Shiny Narrow Grin by Jane Gaskell.
From 1982 to 1994, she contributed several articles to the School Library Journal. In 2007, her novel Blood and Chocolate was adapted into a film.
