Amal El-Mohtar is a Canadian poet and writer of speculative fiction. She has been actively publishing short fiction, poetry, essays, and reviews. El-Mohtar is also known for her role as editor of the fantastic poetry quarterly magazine Goblin Fruit, which she has managed since 2006.
In addition to her writing, El-Mohtar has a notable presence in the literary community as a book reviewer. She began reviewing science fiction and fantasy books for the New York Times Book Review in February 2018. El-Mohtar's contributions to the field of creative writing extend to academia where she has served as an instructor at Carleton University and the University of Ottawa.
In 2018, she expanded her influence within the writing community by serving as a host on Brandon Sanderson's creative writing podcast Writing Excuses for its thirteenth season.
