Yuu Watase

Yuu Watase (渡瀬 悠宇, Watase Yuu) is a renowned Japanese manga artist, born on March 5, 1970. Watase made her debut in 1989 at the age of 18 with the short story "Pajama de Ojama" (パジャマでおじゃま), which translates to "An Intrusion in Pajamas." Since her debut, she has published over 50 volumes of one-shots and long-running manga series.

One of Watase’s most celebrated works is Fushigi Yûgi. In 1998, she was honored with the 43rd Shogakukan Manga Award in the shōjo (girls') category for Ceres, Celestial Legend. In October 2008, she began her first shōnen (boys') serialization with Arata: The Legend.

Over her career, Watase is known for her adept use of beautiful male characters, garnering her recognition as a bishōnen manga artist. As of May 2019, she identifies as gender X, a non-binary gender identity in Japan.
