Waubgeshig Rice is an acclaimed Anishinaabe writer and journalist from the Wasauksing First Nation near Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada. He began his literary career with a short story collection titled Midnight Sweatlodge, which draws inspiration from his upbringing in an Anishinaabe community. This work earned him an Independent Publishers Book Award in 2012.
Rice continued to build his literary portfolio with the debut novel Legacy, which was published in 2014. He garnered further attention with his novel Moon of the Crusted Snow, released in October 2018. Beyond his contributions to literature, Rice is known for his role as the host of Up North, CBC Radio's afternoon program dedicated to northern Ontario.
Waubgeshig's efforts to share and celebrate First Nation storytelling have been recognized with the Anishinabek Nation’s Debwewin Citation, which he received in 2014. He now divides his time between Sudbury and Wasauksing, continuing to engage with his audience through various media and literary works.
