Wajdi Mouawad is a Lebanese-Canadian writer, actor, and director, born on October 16, 1968, in Beirut, Lebanon. He is widely recognized for his politically engaged works, which often explore themes of family trauma, war, and the betrayal of youth.

He founded two companies, "Au carré de l'hypoténuse" in France and "Abé carré cé carré" in Montreal, in collaboration with Emmanuel Schwartz.
His international acclaim grew with his tetralogy Le sang des promesses (Forêts, Littoral, Incendies, Ciels), which he both wrote and directed. In 2009, Mouawad was the associate artist at the Avignon Festival and received the Grand Prix du Théâtre by the French Academy for his body of dramatic work.
