Vivian Vande Velde

Vivian Vande Velde is an acclaimed American writer born on June 18, 1951, known for her engaging fiction aimed at children and young adults. Residing in Rochester, New York, Vivian has dedicated much of her career to weaving stories that often contain elements of horror and fantasy, intertwined with a humorous touch.

Among her notable works, Never Trust a Dead Man received the 2000 Edgar Award for Best Young Adult Novel, showcasing her adept skill in crafting compelling narratives for younger audiences. Her first published book, A Hidden Magic, marked the beginning of her journey into the literary world.

Vivian's passion for storytelling was ignited early in her life, supported by her parents who urged her to pursue her dreams. After marrying Jim Vande Velde and becoming a mother, she transitioned from her job as a secretary to embrace writing full-time.

Vivian is also deeply involved in supporting fellow writers. She is an active member of the Rochester Area Children's Writers & Illustrators (RACWI), where she finds camaraderie and inspiration among her peers.
