On January 26th, 2001, at 8:46 AM IST, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck western India, killing over 22,000 people. Viral was buried alive for days under tons of rubble from a collapsed building, in absolute darkness without food, water, light, or the ability to moveβwhile the ceiling hung precariously inches above his head. The only resource he had was his mind. He was rescued unscathed after 4Β½ days by the incredible International Rescue Corps from Scotland. This experience inspired his book, Choosing Light, which is dedicated to his family and the rescue team.
