Vicki Myron was born in 1947 and has made a significant impact as an American author and librarian. She served as the Director of the Spencer Public Library for over two decades, where her love for literature and community engagement flourished. Myron is widely celebrated for her best-selling book, Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World, co-written with Bret Witter. This book, which details the life of a library cat named Dewey, who Myron found and nurtured, has sold over a million copies worldwide and remained on bestseller lists for more than six months.

Myron's story of Dewey captured the hearts of readers around the globe, showcasing the profound impact that one small cat could have on a community. Following the success of her first book, Myron and Witter expanded their repertoire to include two children's books inspired by Dewey, along with audio books. In 2010, they released a sequel, Dewey's Nine Lives, and a second children's picture book about the beloved cat. Although a film adaptation of Dewey's story was proposed, it has not yet come to fruition.

Before embarking on her writing and library career, Myron lived a life rich in experiences. She was born in Spencer, grew up on a farm near Moneta, Iowa, and pursued higher education in Minnesota and Kansas, earning a bachelor’s degree from Mankato State and a master's from Emporia State University. Myron returned to Spencer in 1982, began working at the public library, and later became its Director in 1987, a position she held for over 25 years until her retirement in 2007 to focus on writing.

Myron's literary tastes are diverse, including a love for George Orwell, Frederick Feikema, and the Harry Potter series. She is also a fan of Torey Hayden’s works on abused children, showcasing her wide-ranging interests in reading.
