Vera Brosgol

Vera Brosgol, also known as Verabee, was born in Moscow, Russia, in 1984 and moved to the United States when she was five years old. She received a diploma in Classical Animation from Sheridan College. Vera currently resides in Portland, Oregon, and works full-time writing and drawing books.

She has an impressive background in feature animation, having storyboarded for Laika on films such as Coraline, Paranorman, The Boxtrolls, and Kubo and the Two Strings. Additionally, she served as Head of Story for the Academy Award-winning Pinocchio.

Her first graphic novel, Anya's Ghost, was published in 2011 by First Second Books and won an Eisner Award. She also authored a picture book, Leave Me Alone, published in 2016 by Roaring Brook Press, which earned a Caldecott Honor.

Outside of her professional work, Vera enjoys knitting, baking, hiking, riding her bike, and trying not to kill her plants. She hopes readers enjoy looking at her drawings!
