Tatyana Tolstaya

Tatyana Nikitichna Tolstaya (Russian: Татьяна Никитична Толстая; born May 3, 1951) is a prominent Russian writer, TV host, publicist, novelist, and essayist. She hails from the distinguished Tolstoy family, being the great-grandniece of the eminent author Leo Tolstoy and the granddaughter of Alexei Tolstoy. Despite her illustrious lineage, Tolstaya asserts her independent identity as a writer, preferring not to be solely identified by her familial connections.

Born in Leningrad, U.S.S.R., Tolstaya was raised in an environment rich in culture and education. Her father, a physics professor, imparted to her knowledge of two languages, while her maternal grandfather was a renowned translator. Her works are notable for their depth and wit, reflecting her extensive literary heritage.
