Sukumar Ray

Sukumar Ray was a Bengali writer and poet from British India, renowned for his writings for children. He was born on 30 October 1887 and passed away on 10 September 1923. Sukumar Ray was the son of the distinguished children's story writer Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury and the father of the eminent Indian filmmaker Satyajit Ray.

He is celebrated as perhaps the most famous Indian practitioner of literary nonsense, drawing comparisons to Lewis Carroll. His celebrated works include the collection of poems Aboltabol, the novella HaJaBaRaLa, the short story collection Pagla Dashu, and the play Chalachittachanchari. These works are considered nonsense masterpieces, comparable to Alice in Wonderland, and are regarded as significant treasures of Bengali literature.

Even more than 80 years after his death, Ray remains one of the most beloved children's writers in both West Bengal and Bangladesh.
