Sonya Sones

Sonya Sones is an American poet and author renowned for her young adult novels in verse. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, around 1953, Sones has penned seven young adult books and one novel in verse for adults. Her works often explore themes pertinent to teenagers and women's fiction.

Some of her notable works include What My Mother Doesn't Know and Stop Pretending: What Happened When My Big Sister Went Crazy. She has received numerous accolades for her writing, such as a Christopher Award, the Myra Cohn Livingston Award for Poetry, and the Claudia Lewis Poetry Award. Her book titles have also earned recognition, like a nomination for a Los Angeles Times Book Prize and a Cuffie Award from Publisherโ€™s Weekly for Best Book Title of the year.

Interestingly, Sonya Sones is recognized as one of the most frequently challenged authors of the 21st century by the American Library Association (ALA), an honor that underscores her impact and the controversial nature of some of her themes.
