Sheri Reynolds is an acclaimed author of contemporary Southern fiction, distinguished for her vivid storytelling and profound exploration of human nature. Born and raised in rural South Carolina, she has established a significant presence in the literary world.
Reynolds is a graduate of Conway High School (1985), Davidson College (1989), and Virginia Commonwealth University (1992). She is also the Ruth and Perry Morgan Chair of Southern Literature at Old Dominion University, where she teaches creative writing and literature classes. Notably, she received the Outstanding Faculty Award from the State Council for Higher Education of Virginia in 2003 and a grant in playwriting from the Virginia Commission for the Arts in 2005.
Reynolds' literary works include the novels Bitterroot Landing, The Rapture of Canaan (an Oprah book club selection and a New York Times bestseller), A Gracious Plenty, Firefly Cloak, The Sweet In-Between, The Homespun Wisdom of Myrtle T. Cribb, and The Tender Grave. Her first play, Orabelle's Wheelbarrow, won the Women Playwrights' Initiative playwriting competition in 2005.
She divides her time between Spartanburg, SC, and Cape Charles, VA, on Virginia's Eastern Shore, contributing to her unique perspective on Southern life and culture.
