Seth Kantner is an American writer renowned for his vivid portrayal of life in Alaska. Raised in a sod igloo on the Alaskan tundra, Kantner's upbringing is a central theme in his writing. He attended the University of Alaska and further honed his skills by studying journalism at the University of Montana.
In addition to writing, Kantner has worked in various professions, including as a photographer, trapper, fisherman, mechanic, and igloo-builder. Currently, he resides in Kotzebue, Alaska.
His debut novel, Ordinary Wolves (2004), describes the life of Cutuk, a boy growing up in an environment similar to Kantner's own childhood experiences. This novel was well-received and won a Pacific Northwest Booksellers Award.
Kantner continued his literary journey with a memoir, Shopping for Porcupine (2009), further exploring themes of life and survival in the Alaskan wilderness.
