Sandra Gulland is an American-born Canadian novelist. She is renowned for being the author of The Shadow Queen and Mistress of the Sun, which are novels set in the court of Louis XIV, the Sun King. Additionally, she wrote a trilogy of novels based on the life of Josephine Bonaparte: The Many Lives & Secret Sorrows of Josephine B.; Tales of Passion, Tales of Woe; and The Last Great Dance on Earth.
Gulland's novels have gained international acclaim, being published in fifteen countries and translated into thirteen languages. The Many Lives & Secret Sorrows of Josephine B. was notably a bestseller in the UK.
She is also the author of The Game of Hope, a Young Adult novel about Josephine Bonaparte's daughter (and Napoleon's stepdaughter), published in Canada and the US. Currently, she is working on another Young Adult historical novel about a young falconer in Elizabethan England.
Born in Miami, Florida, Gulland lived in Rio de Janeiro, Berkeley, and Chicago before immigrating to Canada in 1970, where she initially taught in an Inuit community.
