Ramachandra Guha

Ramachandra "Ram" Guha is an Indian historian, environmentalist, writer, and public intellectual, born on April 29, 1958. His research interests include social, political, contemporary, environmental, and cricket history. He is regarded as an important authority on the history of modern India.

The American Historical Association (AHA) awarded him the Honorary Foreign Member prize in 2019, making him the third Indian historian to be recognized by the association.

Guha has written three major books on modern India's socio-political history, including Gandhi Before India (2013), Gandhi: The Years That Changed the World (2018), and India After Gandhi (2007). His work, India After Gandhi, is particularly significant for its comprehensive account of India's history from 1947 to 2007 and is widely read, including by those preparing for the Indian civil services examination.

In January 2017, Guha was appointed to the BCCI's panel of administrators by the Supreme Court of India but stepped down after five months for personal reasons.

He contributes regularly to various academic journals and has written for publications such as The Caravan and Outlook magazines. In 2022, he was listed among the 100 most powerful Indians by The Indian Express.
