Patricia Nell Warren, also known by her pen name Patricia Kilina, was a remarkable American novelist, poet, editor, and journalist. She was born on June 15, 1936, in Helena, Montana, and passed away on February 9, 2019.
Her literary career is highlighted by her second novel, The Front Runner (1974), which was the first work of contemporary gay fiction to make the New York Times Best Seller list. Her third novel, The Fancy Dancer (1976), was notable for being the first bestseller to portray a gay priest and to explore gay life in a small town.
In addition to her contributions in English, she was known as Patricia Kylyna in Ukrainian literary circles. After marrying Ukrainian émigré writer Yuriy Tarnawsky in 1957, she learned the Ukrainian language and published several well-received Ukrainian poetry collections. These include Trahediya dzhmeliv (1960), Legendy i sny (1964), and Rozhevi mista (1969).
