Odysseas Elytis (Greek: Οδυσσέας Ελύτης, pen name of Odysseas Alepoudellis, Greek: Οδυσσέας Αλεπουδέλλης; 2 November 1911 – 18 March 1996) was a Greek poet, essayist, and translator. He is regarded as the definitive exponent of Romantic Modernism in Greece and internationally.
Elytis is one of the most acclaimed poets of the second half of the twentieth century. His work, Axion Esti, is particularly noted as a monument of contemporary poetry.
In 1979, Elytis was honored with the Nobel Prize in Literature.
