Nujeen Mustafa

Nujeen Mustafa is a Kurdish Syrian refugee and activist known for her inspiring journey and activism. Born on January 1, 1999, she was raised in Aleppo, Syria, and is notable for traveling 3,500 miles (5,600 km) by wheelchair to flee the Syrian Civil War, eventually resettling in Germany. Nujeen's story of courage and resilience has been widely recognized, and she was featured on the television show Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. In 2018, she was listed as one of the BBC's 100 Women.

In 2019, Nujeen made history by becoming the first disabled person to brief the United Nations Security Council. Her remarkable advocacy work earned her the Alison Des Forges Award for Extraordinary Activism from Human Rights Watch. As a co-author, she has contributed to two books detailing her experiences. Currently, she resides in Wesseling, Germany, where she attends a school dedicated to individuals with disabilities.
