Natsuki Takaya (Japanese: 高屋 奈月, Hepburn: Takaya Natsuki), born on July 7, 1973, is a renowned Japanese manga artist best known for creating the series Fruits Basket. Takaya was born as Nana Hatake and raised in Tokyo.
From a young age, she aspired to become a manga artist, driven by her sister's interest in drawing. Her professional debut came in 1992. Fruits Basket, her most celebrated work, debuted in 1998 and quickly became one of the best-selling shōjo manga in North America.
The manga was successfully adapted into anime twice; the first adaptation aired in 2001, while the second adaptation, which began in 2019, concluded in 2021 with three seasons. In recognition of her outstanding work, Takaya was honored with the Kodansha Manga Award for shōjo manga in 2001.
Remarkably, after the publication of Fruits Basket volume six, Takaya broke her drawing arm, necessitating surgery and a brief hiatus. She made a full recovery, albeit with a change in her handwriting.
