Natsuki Takaya

Natsuki Takaya (Japanese: 高屋 奈月, Hepburn: Takaya Natsuki), born July 7, 1973, is a renowned Japanese manga artist best known for creating the series Fruits Basket. Born Nana Hatake, Takaya was raised in Tokyo, where she made her debut as a manga artist in 1992. She aspired to be a manga artist since first grade, inspired by her sister's drawings.

Her manga series, Fruits Basket, which debuted in 1998, became one of the best-selling shōjo manga in North America. The series has been adapted into an anime series twice; the first adaptation premiered in 2001 and aired as one season of twenty-six episodes. The second adaptation premiered in 2019 with two seasons of twenty-five episodes each, and a third season with thirteen episodes, concluding in 2021.

In 2001, Takaya received the Kodansha Manga Award for shōjo manga for Fruits Basket. After the publication of Fruits Basket volume six, Takaya broke her drawing arm, underwent surgery, and had to put Fruits Basket on a brief hiatus. She made a full recovery but noted that her handwriting had worsened due to the surgery.
