Naoki Higashida

Naoki Higashida is a Japanese author known for his book The Reason I Jump: One Boy's Voice from the Silence of Autism. Born in 1992, he was diagnosed with autism at the age of five. He wrote the book at the age of 13, which was later translated into English in 2013.

The book discusses his experiences as a largely nonspeaking autistic person and has been translated into over 30 languages. It became a bestseller on both the New York Times and the UK Sunday Times for hardback nonfiction.

Despite its success, the book has sparked mixed reviews due to the involvement of a communications facilitator and translators. Nonetheless, it inspired a play from the National Theatre of Scotland and a feature documentary.
