Monika Feth was born in Hagen in Westfalen in 1951, a city located between the Ruhr area and Sauerland. At the age of nineteen, she moved to Bonn to study German Studies and English Studies.

Books have always been her passion. However, coming from a working-class family (her father was the first to work at a desk), reading was considered a luxury for wealthy people. Therefore, she chose fields of study that allowed her to read all day without being questioned about doing something more practical.

After her studies, she wrote her first book, despite never having written a single line before. To her surprise, it was published and appeared in a major publishing house.
