Michelle Harrison

Michelle Harrison is an accomplished British author, renowned for her captivating children's novels. She was born in 1979 and grew up in Grays, Essex, where her passion for storytelling was sparked by her two older sisters who often read to her and crafted their own tales.

Michelle began writing short stories at the age of fourteen, with aspirations of becoming an author and illustrator by the time she left school. At nineteen, she moved to Stafford to study Illustration, marking the beginning of her serious pursuit of writing.

Her first children's novel, The 13 Treasures, won the Waterstone's Children's Book Prize, establishing her as a significant voice in children's literature. Her other works have garnered prestigious accolades, including The Other Alice's Calderdale Book of the Year Award and A Pinch of Magic's Dutch Bronze Pen Award. Her books have been translated and sold in 24 territories worldwide.

Before becoming a full-time writer, Michelle worked in various roles, including a barmaid, an art gallery attendant, a children's bookseller, and most recently, as an assistant editor for a children's book publisher in Oxford.

Currently residing in Essex, Michelle lives with her son, Jack, and two cats, Marmite and Widdershins. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and making jewelry, which is sold through a local gallery.
