Growing up in rural South Alabama, Melanie dreamt of a career as a novelist. She began writing stories in notebooks at twelve and completed her first romance novel at fourteen. She pursued a degree in special education for the hearing impaired at the University of Alabama and taught in Georgia's public schools before spending a year as a missionary in Ukraine. Marriage and children led her back to writing, resulting in twenty-eight published novels.

Melanie resides in the beautiful foothills of the Appalachians near Huntsville, Alabama. When not writing, she enjoys watching While You Were Sleeping for the hundredth time with her husband and spending time with her Jack Russell terrier.
