Margot Lee Shetterly

Margot Lee Shetterly is an American nonfiction writer born on June 30, 1969. She is renowned for her work in investment banking, media startups, and authorship. Her debut book, Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Who Helped Win the Space Race (2016), highlights the significant contributions of African-American women mathematicians at NASA, who played a crucial role in the success of the United States space program.


The book's popularity led to the sale of its movie rights while still in development, resulting in the adaptation of the feature film Hidden Figures in 2016. In addition to her literary achievements, Shetterly and her husband spent several years living and working in Mexico, where they founded and published a magazine named Inside Mexico, aimed at English-speaking readers.
