Margaret George

Margaret George is an American historical novelist born in 1943, renowned for her epic fictional biographies. She is celebrated for her meticulous research and the expansive scale of her books.

She has authored several bestselling novels, including The Autobiography of Henry VIII (1986), Mary Queen of Scotland and the Isles (1992), The Memoirs of Cleopatra (1997), Mary, Called Magdalene (2002), Helen of Troy (2006), Elizabeth I (2011), The Confessions of Young Nero (2017), and The Splendor Before the Dark (2018). Many of these novels became New York Times bestsellers, and the Cleopatra novel was adapted into an Emmy-nominated ABC-TV miniseries in 1999. Her works have been translated into 21 languages, placing her at the forefront of historical novelists today.

Due to her detailed and accurate research, Margaret George has been a featured interviewee on A & E Biography in specials like Henry VIII: Scandals of a King (1996) and Elizabeth: The Virgin Queen (1996), as well as a special on Alexandria entitled Cleopatra's World: Alexandria Revealed (1999). She has also spoken at prestigious venues like the Folger Shakespeare Library, Hampton Court, the Tower of London, and the Library of Congress's National Book Festival (2011, 2019).

In 2021, she authored an immersive audiovisual tour entitled The Charioteer for the Circus Maximus in Rome, available on the BARDEUM mobile app.
