Maile Meloy

Maile Meloy is an American novelist and short story writer, born on January 1, 1972. She is known for her novels "Liars and Saints," "A Family Daughter," and "Do Not Become Alarmed," as well as her short story collections "Half in Love" and "Both Ways Is the Only Way I Want It," which was named one of the Ten Best Books of the Year by the New York Times Book Review.


Meloy has also penned a trilogy of novels for young readers, starting with "The Apothecary," a New York Times bestseller that won the E.B. White Award. Her short stories have appeared in prestigious publications such as The New Yorker, The Paris Review, Granta, and Best American Short Stories, and have been featured on This American Life, WORDTheatre, and Selected Shorts.


She is a recipient of numerous awards, including The Paris Review’s Aga Khan Prize for Fiction, the PEN/Malamud Award for Excellence in the Short Story, the Rosenthal Foundation Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, two California Book Awards, and a Guggenheim Fellowship.


Her essays have been published in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker, Slate, Sunset, and O. Additionally, she has contributed to the Netflix series The Society and has written and directed for the Fox anthology series Accused.
