Kitty Fitzgerald

Kitty Fitzgerald is an Irish-born writer known for her diverse contributions to literature and the arts. Born on 25 September 1946, she grew up in Yorkshire and currently resides in Northumberland. Fitzgerald pursued a degree in English as a mature student and transitioned into a full-time writing career soon after.

She is a distinguished novelist, poet, and playwright with a portfolio that includes four radio plays for the BBC, eight stage and film plays, as well as numerous works of fiction and poetry. Kitty has also served as an editor for IRON Press.

Her accolades include a Hawthornden Castle Fellowship, a Time to Write Award, and a Hosking Houses Trust Writing Award. Her screenplay for the film "Dream On" won the award for most original screenplay at the La Baule Film Festival, and she was the second-place finalist in the Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers Award in 2005.

In 2015, Fitzgerald was honored as the Writer-in-Residence at the University of Manitoba's Centre for Creative Writing and Oral Culture. She was also the winner of the Short Story Competition in Notes from the Underground/Latitude Festival in 2009.
