Katherine Howe

Katherine Howe is an American novelist known for her expertise in historical fiction. She was born in 1977 and resides in New England and New York City. Howe's works frequently explore the "contingent nature of reality and belief."


Her debut novel, The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane (2009), became a New York Times Bestseller, drawing inspiration from the Salem witch trials. The book's success propelled her into the spotlight, leading to appearances on various TV news shows and the National Geographic Channel's "Salem: Unmasking The Devil."


In addition to her debut, Howe has penned several other novels including The House of Velvet and Glass, Conversion, The Appearance of Annie Van Sinderen (2015), and A True Account (2023). Her works have been translated into more than 20 languages.


Howe's non-fiction accomplishments include editing The Penguin Book of Witches for Penguin Classics, a collection of primary sources on the history of witchcraft in England and North America. She co-authored the #1 bestselling Vanderbilt: the Rise and Fall of an American Dynasty with Anderson Cooper, released in September 2021.
