Karen Marie Moning is an American author, best known for her work in the genres of paranormal romance and urban fantasy. She was born on November 1, 1964, in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. Moning graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor's degree in Society and Law and minors in Philosophy, Creative Writing, and Theatre. Before embarking on her successful writing career, she worked as a bartender, a computer consultant, and an insurance specialist.
Moning's early work focused on paranormal romance set in Scotland. However, as her interest in Celtic mythology grew, she transitioned to writing urban fantasy set in Dublin, Ireland. This allowed her to delve into the world of the Tuatha de Danann, or Faeβan ancient race of immortal beings living secretly among humans for millennia. Her acclaimed works include the Highlander novels and the internationally bestselling Fever series.
She is a recipient of the prestigious Romance Writers of America RITA award for Best Paranormal Romance and has been nominated for multiple RITA awards. Her novels have frequently appeared on The New York Times Best Seller list, with Shadowfever reaching the number one position on multiple national best seller lists.
Moning was briefly married to Neil Dover, a chef, musician, and editor. She currently divides her time between the mountains of Georgia and the beaches of Florida.
