Kamel Daoud (Arabic: كمال داود) is an Algerian writer and journalist. Born on June 17, 1970, in Mesra, Mostaganem, Algeria, he is known for his work as a columnist for the French-language daily Le quotidien d’Oran, where he writes the popular column "Raïna Raïkoum" (Our Opinion, Your Opinion). This column often includes sharp commentary on current news.
Daoud is the author of several works, including the acclaimed short story collection La Préface du nègre (Barzakh, 2008), which received the Prix Mohammed Dib and has been translated into German and Italian. His novel "Meursault, The Counter-Inquiry" (Barzakh Editions, 2013) brought him international recognition and won the 2014 Five Continents Prize, an award decided by a jury chaired by Nobel Prize in Literature laureate Jean-Marie Gustave Clézio.
