Justin Drew Bieber is a Canadian singer and songwriter, born on March 1, 1994. He has been regarded as a pop icon and is recognized for his multi-genre musical performances. Bieber was discovered by record executive Scooter Braun in 2008 and was subsequently brought to the United States by singer Usher. Together, they formed the record label RBMG Records to sign Bieber in October of that year.
His debut extended play (EP), My World (2009), received international recognition and established him as a teen idol. Bieber rose to mainstream stardom with his debut studio album, My World 2.0 (2010), which debuted atop the US Billboard 200, making him the youngest solo male act to do so in 47 years. The album's single "Baby" became one of the best-selling singles of all time.
His second studio album, Under the Mistletoe (2011), made history as the first Christmas album by a male artist to debut atop the chart. Bieber explored dance-pop with his third studio album, Believe (2012), and its acoustic re-release made him the first artist in Billboard history to have five US number-one albums by the age of 18.
In 2015, Bieber explored EDM with the Grammy Award-winning single "Where Are Ü Now" (with Jack Ü). His fourth album, Purpose (2015), produced three Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles: "Love Yourself," "Sorry," and "What Do You Mean?". He became the first artist to simultaneously hold the top three spots in UK chart history.
In 2017, Bieber's collaborations, "I'm the One" by DJ Khaled and "Despacito" by Luis Fonsi, both peaked the Billboard Hot 100, making him the first artist to replace himself atop the chart with new songs in consecutive weeks. Bieber's achievements include breaking Elvis Presley's record for the youngest solo act to have eight US number-one albums.
Bieber is one of the best-selling music artists, with over 150 million records sold worldwide. He holds five diamond certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America. His accolades include 2 Grammy Awards, 1 Latin Grammy Award, 8 Juno Awards, 2 Brit Awards, 26 Billboard Music Awards, 18 American Music Awards, and 22 MTV Europe Music Awards, the most for any artist. He has 23 Teen Choice Awards and 33 Guinness World Records.
In 2011, Time named Bieber one of the 100 most influential people, and he was listed in Forbes' top ten most powerful celebrities in 2011, 2012, and 2013. Billboard recognized him as the eighth-greatest pop star of the 21st century.
