Junot Díaz is a Dominican-American writer, best known for his works exploring the immigrant experience, particularly the Latino immigrant experience. Born on December 31, 1968, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Díaz migrated to New Jersey with his family at the age of six.
He is the author of critically acclaimed works such as Drown, and the Pulitzer Prize-winning The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. His book This Is How You Lose Her was a New York Times bestseller and a National Book Award finalist.
Díaz holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers University and an MFA from Cornell University. He is currently a professor of creative writing at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and serves as fiction editor at Boston Review. He co-founded the Voices of Our Nation Workshop.
Junot Díaz has been honored with several prestigious awards, including a MacArthur "Genius" Fellowship, the PEN/Malamud Award, the Dayton Literary Peace Prize, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and the PEN/O. Henry Award.
