John L. DeBoer, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a retired general surgeon who embarked on a second career as a writer. He graduated from the University of Vermont College of Medicine and completed his surgical training in the U.S. Army, serving three years in the Medical Corps. After over thirty years in private practice, he retired to pursue writing.

DeBoer is the father of two grown sons and resides with his wife in North Carolina.
