John Crowley, born in Presque Isle, Maine, in 1942, has carved a niche for himself as an eminent American author of fantasy and science fiction literature. His journey into the world of literature is as fascinating as the stories he writes. The son of an officer in the US Army Air Corps, Crowley's early years took him from Vermont to northeastern Kentucky and eventually Indiana. It was in Indiana where he spent his formative years, completing both high school and college.
After college, Crowley's ambition led him to New York City with the intent of making movies. He found work in documentary films, a field he continues to be involved in. His debut novel, The Deep, was published in 1975, marking the beginning of a prolific writing career that spans over three decades. By 2007, he had published his 15th volume of fiction, Endless Things. Apart from his literary career, Crowley has been a part of the academic world since 1993, teaching creative writing at Yale University. His contributions to literature were recognized in 1992 when he received the Award in Literature from the American Academy and Institute of Arts.
