Joan D. Vinge, born Joan Carol Dennison on April 2, 1948, is an American science fiction author. She is renowned for her Hugo Award-winning novel The Snow Queen and its sequels, her series about the telepath named Cat, and her Heaven's Chronicles books.

Vinge has also authored The Random House Book of Greek Myths (1999). Her work has been recognized with multiple awards, including the Hugo Award for Best Novel in 1981 for The Snow Queen and the Hugo Award for Best Novelette in 1978 for Eyes of Amber. She has been nominated several times for the Nebula Award.
