Jiří Kulhánek is a renowned Czech science fiction and fantasy writer, born on 31 December 1967. He is considered one of the most successful contemporary authors of the genre in the Czech Republic. Kulhánek is known for his tolerance toward the unauthorised distribution of his works on the internet.

The heroes in Kulhánek's books often possess extraordinary or even supernatural abilities, such as vampires or cyborgs. A recurring plot element is the protagonist being assaulted at the beginning of the story, subsequently taking refuge from more numerous 'normal' enemies, and eventually facing hidden leaders who are more powerful than the hero himself.
