Jessica Bruder

Jessica Bruder is an American journalist known for her in-depth exploration of subcultures and resilience in modern society. She is a faculty member at Columbia Journalism School, where she teaches narrative writing.


Her most renowned work, "Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century" (W.W. Norton & Co.), documented the lives of itinerant Americans who choose to live in camper vans. These individuals have given up traditional housing, opting for a nomadic lifestyle that allows them to travel from job to job. Bruder spent months immersed in this lifestyle, traveling more than 15,000 miles over a span of three years from coast to coast and across borders.
