Jeremy Narby is a renowned Canadian anthropologist and author. Born in 1959 in Montreal, Quebec, he grew up in Canada and Switzerland. Narby pursued history at the University of Kent at Canterbury and later earned a doctorate in anthropology from Stanford University.
He has dedicated several years to living with the Ashaninca in the Peruvian Amazon, where he cataloged indigenous uses of rainforest resources to help combat ecological destruction. Narby's work examines shamanism, molecular biology, and the knowledge of shamans about botany and biology through the use of entheogens across various cultures.
Aside from authoring multiple books, including the notable works The Cosmic Serpent and Intelligence in Nature, he sponsored an expedition for biologists and scientists to explore indigenous knowledge systems and the utility of Ayahuasca in gaining knowledge. Since 1989, Narby has served as the Amazonian projects director for the Swiss NGO, Nouvelle Planète.
