Jennifer Richard Jacobson, a graduate of both Lesley College and the Harvard Graduate School of Education, is a celebrated author of award-winning children's books. Her works span various genres, including picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, and young adult novels.
Some of her popular works include Small as an Elephant, Paper Things, and The Dollar Kids, illustrated by Ryan Andrews. She has ventured into chapter book series such as Andy Shane and Twig and Turtle, as well as a picture book titled Oh, Chickadee!. Her young adult novels include The Complete History of Why I Hate Her and Stained.
Jennifer has been honored with numerous awards, including the ALA Best Books For Young Adults, Publishers Weekly Best Books, NYPL Best Books for Teens, Parents Choice Gold Award, ILA Social Justice Award, and many more. Her book Small as an Elephant won the Parent's Choice Gold Award.
Beyond writing, Jennifer also coaches and critiques aspiring writers. Her expertise is rooted in her extensive experience as a literacy specialist and educational consultant. Having taught from preschool through sixth grade, she has served in roles such as Curriculum Coordinator and Language Arts Specialist. She has worked with schools to enhance their writing programs, focusing on authentic purpose, genuine audience, and joy in writing.
Jennifer's passion for children's literature began during her time at Lesley College, leading her to pursue a career in writing. She believes in the power of exploration, risk-taking, and positive feedback in fostering successful writers. This philosophy is evident in her own journey, from winning an essay contest in high school to eventually becoming a renowned author.
Jennifer resides in Maine, where she continues to inspire young readers and writers with her engaging stories and educational initiatives.
