Jason Aaron is a renowned American comic book writer, celebrated for his exceptional storytelling and character development in iconic titles. His notable works include Thor, The Other Side, Scalped, Ghost Rider, Wolverine, PunisherMAX, and Southern Bastards. Aaron's contributions to the Marvel Universe are significant, having penned the central miniseries of the company-wide crossover, The War of the Realms, in 2019.
Born in Jasper, Alabama, Aaron's passion for comics was influenced by his cousin, Gustav Hasford, author of the semi-autobiographical novel The Short-Timers, which inspired the film Full Metal Jacket. Determined to pursue a career in comics from a young age, Aaron's mother supported his dream by purchasing comic books for him. These early encounters with comics, some of which he still treasures, fueled his ambition.
Aaron's professional journey in the comic book industry took off in 2001 when he won a Marvel Comics talent search contest with a compelling eight-page Wolverine back-up story script, published in Wolverine #175 in June 2002. This victory opened the door for him to pitch ideas to editors, leading to a prolific career writing for various series, including The Mighty Thor, Doctor Strange, Star Wars for Marvel, and his creator-owned works for Image Comics.
