Jan-Philipp Sendker, born in Hamburg in 1960, is a German author renowned for his deep connection with Asia, which has profoundly influenced his body of work. Longing to travel the world, Sendker became the American correspondent for Stern from 1990 to 1995, and its Asian correspondent from 1995 to 1999. His experiences in Asia not only enriched his perspective but also formed the backbone of his literary exploration.
In 2000, Sendker published Cracks in the Great Wall, a nonfiction book about China, signaling the start of his illustrious writing career. His first novel, The Art of Hearing Heartbeats, marked a significant shift to fiction, and he has since authored three further novels, including a sequel titled A Well-Tempered Heart. His work has been recognized for its emotional depth and evocative storytelling, earning him The indies Choice Honor Award in the category Adult Fiction for The Art of Hearing Heartbeats in 2013.
