Jacqueline Carey

Jacqueline A. Carey is an American writer, primarily known for her works in the fantasy fiction genre. She was born on October 9, 1964, in Highland Park, Illinois. Carey attended Lake Forest College, where she earned B.A.'s in psychology and English literature. During her college years, she spent six months working in a bookstore as part of a work exchange program, which inspired her to pursue a professional writing career.

Upon returning, she began her writing journey while working at the art center of a local college. After a decade of perseverance, she achieved success with the publication of her first book in 2001. Jacqueline Carey is best known for her critically acclaimed Kushiel’s Legacy series of historical fantasy novels, the Sundering epic fantasy duology, postmodern fables Santa Olivia and Saints Astray, and the Agent of Hel contemporary fantasy series.

Jacqueline enjoys researching a wide variety of arcane topics and has an affinity for travel, which has taken her from Finland to China. She currently resides in western Michigan and is a member of the oldest Mardi Gras krewe. Despite frequent inquiries from fans, she does not have any tattoos.
